Volunteers serving food at Raukawa marae, 2004

Providing visitors with meals and food items is very important in Māori society. Participants in the 2004 hīkoi (march) to Parliament protesting about the Foreshore and Seabed Bill were greeted with hot food prepared by a large group of volunteers at Raukawa marae in Ōtaki.
