Petitions: Save Manapōuri

Staff of the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society stack boxes of the Save Manapōuri petition shortly before its presentation to Parliament in 1970. The petition opposed the raising of the level of Lake Manapōuri for a proposed hydroelectricity dam and heralded a growing awareness of conservation issues. The incoming Labour government scuttled the dam proposal in 1972.
