North Korean prisoners of war

North Korean prisoners of war

These two North Korean soldiers were captured after a raid on a headland in north-western Korea by sailors from HMNZS Rotoiti. The landing, carried out on 11 July 1951, was assisted by gunfire from the frigate. On another such raid by the Rotoiti, the New Zealand navy suffered its only battle fatality. Able Seaman Robert Marchioni was killed in action on 26 August 1951.
