Tibetan Buddhist protest, Dunedin, 2008

A picture of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama stands in Dunedin's Dhargyey Buddhist Centre, above the monks Venerable Lhagon Rinpoche and Geshe Nyima Dorjee. Geshe Nyima had left his homeland, Tibet, two months before this photo was taken in 2008. He planned to take part in a nationwide protest against China's occupation of Tibet and its suppression of Tibetan Buddhism.
