Pre-wedding rituals: hens' party

A hens' party, or a bachelorette party, is sometimes held for a bride before the wedding. Dressing up and going to the races was the hen party of choice for this group of South Island friends. They are (front row, from left) Anna Smaill, Lauren Anderson, bride Kate Grieve, Julie Bensemann, Erin Elworthy, (middle row) Heidi and baby Harry McAffie, Maria Hansan, Colleen Grieve, Mandy Gregan (back row) Fiona King, Jane Smith, Sonya Anderson and Leeanne Pickup.
