In 1921 Dan Bryant, a wealthy Waikato farmer, set up the Bryant Trust, one of the few private philanthropic trusts in New Zealand at that time. Among other activities, it ran a home near Raglan for convalescent children. 'Uncle Dan' used to visit and entertain the children with tricks and games. This photograph was probably taken in the late 1930s.
