The Women's Health Information Centre (previously The Health Alternatives for Women) worked to establish Lyndhurst Hospital, which offered first-trimester abortions to women who lived within the Canterbury District Health Board boundaries. Pro- and anti-abortion campaigners protest outside the hospital in 1986.
