Steam-powered mill (3rd of 3)

Steam-powered mill

Steam-powered mills were less common than those powered by water or wind. When the Crown Milling Company’s Dunedin mill was built in 1867 its grinders were driven by steam. In the 1890s it was converted, like many others, into a mechanised mill with steel rollers instead of stone grinders.
