Bootmaking factory, 1904

The men and women staff at Johansen & Co., bootmakers of Palmerston North, did different work. The women were machinists while the men did heavier preparatory work. This photograph was taken around 1904, when Frederick Johansen’s factory was on the corner of Bourke and Main streets.
