Advertising on a rugby league jersey

The increasing professionalisation of sport, especially cricket, rugby, rugby league, basketball and football (New Zealand teams compete in trans-Tasman competitions in all but cricket) has strengthened the use of sport to promote goods. Advertising is found on hoardings around sports grounds and on the jerseys of the players. In this case, Vodafone mobile phones and Lion beer are prominently displayed on the jerseys of the New Zealand Warriors, who are playing against the Sydney Roosters in a National Rugby League semi-final at Mt Smart stadium, Auckland, in September 2008.
