Independent Aramoana stamps

Independent Aramoana stamps

Aramoana residents were supported by many other New Zealanders when they fought to prevent an aluminium smelter being built in their township. The site was environmentally important, and the proposed smelter would have required a significant taxpayer subsidy through the provision of cheap electricity. These stamps, issued as part of the Save Aramoana campaign, feature a painting by Auckland artist Don Binney.
