Californian redwood, Mt Peel garden

J. B. A. Acland planted this Californian redwood at Mt Peel Station, South Canterbury, in 1859, one of a number of exotic trees he imported to New Zealand. It bears a plaque recording that it germinated in Devon, England, in 1856.
