An Auckland tamburica orchestra, 1985

Dalmatian clubs often formed tamburica orchestras and they played at dances and annual Yugoslav balls. With their traditional instruments, orchestras were especially popular in Auckland and Northland during the 1960s and 1970s at Friday and Saturday night dances.
