Story: Wairarapa region

Toast Martinborough

Toast Martinborough

In 1992 an annual wine and food festival, Toast Martinborough, was set up to celebrate the Martinborough wine industry. Thousands – mainly affluent Wellingtonians – flock to the town to walk, cycle or bus around the wineries. They taste wine, sample food prepared by regional cooks, and dance to live music. Tickets sell out weeks in advance. Here 2006 festival-goers walk to and from Te Kairanga winery.
