Stone rows

Stone rows

These stone rows at Okoropunga, on the south Wairarapa coast, are from a 15th-century Māori settlement. The rows generally run parallel to one another. Some mark boundaries, but others were gardens – the soil between the rows was warmer and better suited to growing plants like kūmara (sweet potato).
