Olivia Horiwia Bradbrook (née Tamihana; Ngāi Tāmanuhiri, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Kahungunu) wails her call of mourning at the tangi (funeral) of former prime minister Sir Keith Holyoake in 1983. She is the kaikaranga, a woman who calls visitors onto a marae. The kaikaranga from the tangata whenua (host people) welcomes visitors onto particular areas. This demonstrates the host people’s tribal ties to the land – Papatūānuku.
