Story: Pets
Boris the sheep, seen here sampling a potted fern, was one of a succession of pet sheep kept by the Lovell-Smith family in Christchurch in the 1990s. Born on a Banks Peninsula farm, Boris was taken in by the family as an orphan lamb and initially lived in the house, wearing nappies. Later, he grazed their suburban section, but still occasionally wandered into the house. Once fully grown, he was returned to a farm where his wool was used for spinning and weaving. Many New Zealanders, especially those who grew up on farms, have had a pet lamb or sheep.
