Story: Petrels
Often petrel burrows are in steep slopes above the sea, creating interesting challenges for researchers attempting to count them. This surveyor is working on Burgess Island (Pokohinu) in the Mokohinau Island group, in the outer Hauraki Gulf. Petrels likely to have burrows on this slope include common diving petrels, fluttering shearwaters and little shearwaters. Crevices in these rock bluffs may be used by storm petrels.
