Making nest boxes

One way of helping little blue penguins to breed successfully is to provide them with secure places to nest. A well-designed nest box can be difficult for predators to enter, and provides good shelter in areas that have been stripped of natural cover such as trees. These pupils of Wellington’s Mt Cook School are constructing boxes for penguins around the city’s coastline under the watchful eye of a stuffed and mounted little blue penguin.
