Hinepūkohurangi and Te Maunga
Many indigenous peoples consider that they emerged from natural phenomena. The Ngāi Tūhoe tribe believe they are descended from Te Maunga (the mountain) and Hinepūkohurangi (the mist that surrounds their mountains).
