Fruit canning factory, 1905

Fruit canning developed in Central Otago partly because of the difficulty in shipping large quantities of fresh fruit to distant markets. This Roxburgh factory, which processed mainly apricots, had a ceremonial opening in 1905, with many locals in attendance.
