Moeraki boulders

Moeraki boulders

The beach between Moeraki and Hampden is littered with distinctive spherical boulders, which have emerged from the nearby mudstone cliffs. Māori tradition describes them variously as kūmara (sweet potato), gourds and eel pots. Moeraki fishing village is in the distance.
