Story: Oceanic fish

Fish on a plate

Fish on a plate

These plates, produced in the 1960s by Auckland’s prolific Crown Lynn pottery, feature a marlin-like specimen with exaggerated dorsal and pectoral fins, a curved bill, and teeth. This crockery illustrates how bill fish such as marlin and swordfish have entered popular culture and appeal to people's imagination but you won’t see a fish like this in the ocean.
