In this animated computer model of eddies in a bay in the Marlborough Sounds, the land is black, the water is green, and the red and blue represent eddies spinning in opposite directions. As computers become more powerful, models such as this come closer to simulating the actual behaviour of fluids, which is incredibly complex.
