Story: Ocean currents and tides
New Zealand’s largest waves tend to be off the coast of the southern South Island, which is exposed to the Southern Ocean. This film footage, taken at Papatowai in South Otago, shows surfers Daniel Kereopa of Raglan and Doug Young of Canterbury riding waves taller than 12 metres.
