Story: Chatham Islands

Chatham Islands banknotes

Chatham Islands banknotes

In 1999 the Reserve Bank of New Zealand authorised the Chatham Islands Note Corporation to issue banknotes to commemorate the Chathams being the first land to reach the year 2000. They were not intended as legal tender, but were generally accepted by merchants on the Chatham Islands. The designs illustrate aspects of local daily life and history. This is the front and back of the $2 note.
