Populations of Northland towns, 1951–2001
As in many other regions in New Zealand, the population in Northland towns levelled off markedly from the 1980s onward. This contrasts with their rapid growth in the 1950s and 1960s. There are exceptions – for instance, economically buoyant towns such as Kerikeri continue to grow.
