Matiu Rata

Matiu Rata

In 1980 Northland MP Matiu Rata resigned from the Labour Party and set up Mana Motuhake, a political party that aimed to promote the interests of Māori people. It won no seats but has been called the forerunner of the Māori Party of the 2000s.
