The Kauri Museum at Matakohe reveals the history of Northland, focusing on the importance of the kauri tree. Exhibits on tree felling, timber milling and gum digging are complemented by displays of art and craftwork, including ornaments and furniture. This marquetry picture of settler days is made entirely of kauri wood.
