Story: Northland places
This kauri tree, named Tāne Mahuta (the lord of the forest) is thought to be the largest of its kind surviving in New Zealand. It stands in the Waipoua Forest Sanctuary, 55 kilometres north of Dargaville, where many giant kauri are protected.
