Retaining the language

Although Niuean publications are available in New Zealand, the language is not formally taught in the education system. With so few people left on Niue, the language’s survival depends largely on New Zealand Niueans continuing to speak it. This children’s book, Fiafia lahi o Ako ke totou (Ako loves to read), was published by the New Zealand Ministry of Education.
