Porirua Harbour, about 1842

About 1842, when this watercolour view of Porirua Harbour was painted by artist Samuel Charles Brees, Ngāti Toa had made the area their main settlement. In the foreground, Māori are gathering shellfish, while a canoe with a sail can be seen on the water to the right. Other canoes are drawn up on the shore in the background.
