Horouta and Tākitimu canoe territories

Horouta and Tākitimu canoe territories

This map shows the traditional boundaries of the people of the Horouta canoe. The northern part of the Tākitimu canoe area is also marked. In the area around modern Gisborne the lands of the two canoes overlap. Ngāti Porou’s homeland sits inside the Horouta canoe territory and includes the overlapping territory in the south.
