Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiarangi

In the last decades of the 20th century there was a strong revival of Ngāti Awa identity, expressed in the establishment of a tribal trust board, a radio station and a centre of higher learning, Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiarangi. The whare wānanga opened in 1992 and received official status as a degree-granting institution in 1997.
