Story: Ngārara – reptiles
This carving of a ngārara (reptile) is on a post of Tamatekapua meeting house at Whakarewarewa. Traditionally, ngārara are rarely represented in Māori carving. However, when they are depicted, it is usually as kaitiaki or guardians.
