Bank book

This is a bank book from the Maungapōhatu community that Rua Kēnana had established in an attempt to come to grips with the poverty, unemployment and hunger experienced by the Tūhoe people during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At its height in the early 1900s, the community drew its members from the tribes of Mataatua, in particular Tūhoe, Te Whakatōhea and Ngāti Awa.
