This photograph of the Ōhinemataroa River is taken looking south from Rūātoki Bridge. The full name of Ōhinemataroa River is Te Tamāhine-a-Hine-mataroa (the daughter of Hine-mataroa). Hine-mataroa was of the Ngā Pōtiki tribe. She married Tāneatua, the tohunga on Mataatua canoe. Tāneatua was an explorer who named many parts of Te Urewera.
