Wind is an ever-present fact of life in Canterbury – as these trees on an exposed saddle at Banks Peninsula suggest. To help them understand the relationships between such winds as the nor'wester and southerly, Ngāi Tahu adopted a genealogy from the Waitaha people that explains the relationships between the winds from different quarters.
