In 2003 a settlement was reached between the Crown and Ngā Rauru, compensating the tribe for loss of life, land and property as a consequence of the wars of the 1860s. Here Martin Davis of Ngā Rauru and Margaret Wilson, minister in charge of Treaty negotiations, hongi (greet each other) at the signing of the Ngā Rauru deed at Parliament.
