Roadside Stories: The Wars of Waitara

The small Taranaki town of Waitara was the site of many battles in the 19th century, including major conflicts between Waikato taua and Te Āti Awa. In 1860 a dispute over land ownership at Waitara led to the first Taranaki war between Māori and the government.
