Lake Papaitonga

The beautiful Lake Papaitonga is famous in Muaūpoko history. It was there in the 1820s that the tribe attacked Ngāti Toa and killed two children of the chief Te Rauparaha, to avenge the murder, by Ngāti Toa, of a Muaūpoko woman.
