Kapiti Island (1st of 3)

Kapiti Island

Tūteremoana, a famous chief of Ngāi Tara, lived for a time on Kapiti Island and gave his name to its highest peak. According to one account, the island was known to the tribes Ngāi Tara and Rangitāne as Te waewae kapiti o Tara rāua ko Rangitāne (the boundary between Tara and Rangitāne).
