Story: Men’s health
Drinking alcohol to excess and risk-taking are traditional aspects of New Zealand male culture which have had a negative effect on the long-term health prospects of young men. Here a youth, beer can in hand, jumps through a fire on Castle Street, Dunedin, in September 2009. The occasion was the arrival of the Undie 500 rally from Christchurch. Most of those involved in the disorder were students who took part in violence, bottle-throwing, fire-lighting and general drunkenness.
