Story: Meat and wool
After the fleece is shorn, sorted and classed, the first step in the manufacturing process is scouring the wool. This uses hot water and detergents to remove the grease, sweat, dirt and most of the vegetable matter, leaving only the clean wool. New Zealand researchers have developed world-leading scouring technology, making it both highly efficient and environmentally acceptable.
