Story: Matariki – Māori New Year
In this video, Awanui Black describes how the people of the Tauranga Moana tribe celebrated Matariki. Living on the coast, they gathered mussels, which were fat and milky during this time. It was also a great time to dive for kina (sea urchins), a delicacy to offer guests.
