Story: Marine conservation
Fur seals have been totally protected for decades, and their numbers have increased as a result. They and all marine mammal species still enjoy protection if they swim out of marine reserves. But for almost all fish species, swimming out of a marine reserve can mean the difference between being protected and being caught. These seals are in a marine reserve in Fiordland.
