Coastal urban influence

The Nelson region’s population is concentrated in Nelson city and on the coastal lowlands of Tasman Bay, and to a lesser extent, around Tākaka in Golden Bay. These are the only areas of urban influence in what is largely a rural, mountainous and forested region.
