Flax workers

Flax workers

Workers pose outside the Seifert brothers’ Miranui flax mill, the largest at the time in Manawatū. Most of them would have been single. The mill manager Dick Webb (foreground) holds a child. Bundles of flax leaves are visible at right and left of the picture, taken around 1910.
