Trondhjem sawmill

The Scandinavian partnership of Richter and Nannestad built this large sawmill on the Whanganui railway line in 1878, at what is now Bunnythorpe. The workers’ settlement was named Trondhjem (Trondheim), after the historic capital of Norway and birthplace of one of the partners.
