Manawatū and Horowhenua town populations, 1881–2001

Palmerston North grew steadily until 1981, when growth levelled off. Feilding early became more important than Foxton, but Levin overtook it in 1961. In later years all three towns have had static or declining populations – because of the economic downturn and the greater attraction of larger centres.
